Call forwarding

How to forward Verizon calls to your AI receptionist

Verizon has three common business setups, and each forwards differently: Verizon Wireless uses dial codes, Business Digital Voice uses its user portal, and One Talk can also forward on an after-hours schedule.

Verizon Wireless

Available for numbers in the United States. In the dial codes, XXXXXXXXXX stands for the 10 digits of your private routing number.

Forward all calls

  1. From the Verizon phone, call *72XXXXXXXXXX.

Forward unanswered or busy calls

  1. From the Verizon phone, call *71XXXXXXXXXX to forward unanswered calls.

Finish the setup in InsertChat

01

Enter your business number

In your assistant’s phone settings, choose Forward my existing number, enter it, and check compatibility. Confirm the provider you pay for phone service.

02

Forward to your routing number

Choose when calls forward, then follow your provider’s steps to send them to the private routing number InsertChat creates. Never publish that number.

03

Verify with a test call

InsertChat places a verification call. For unanswered-or-busy forwarding, let it ring without answering so your provider’s rule can forward it.

Verizon call forwarding: common questions

Setup, costs, and removal

If the number is on a Verizon mobile phone, follow the Verizon Wireless steps. Office lines managed in the Business Digital Voice portal follow those steps, and One Talk users manage forwarding in One Talk. The setup screen asks you to confirm the provider you pay for.

One Talk can, with an after-hours schedule assigned to call forwarding. For the other Verizon services, forward unanswered calls, or forward all calls and set InsertChat’s routing to ring a team member’s mobile or direct line during business hours.

The first active line is included with your InsertChat plan; additional lines are $10 per month plus voice minutes. Your phone provider may also count forwarded calls against your plan, so check your plan with them.

Choose Another provider during setup. Ask your provider to forward all calls, or unanswered and busy calls, to your private routing number, keep caller ID passthrough on when offered, and make carrier voicemail ring longer than the forwarding timeout.
