# What Is Iframe Embedding? Chat Embeds Explained

> Iframe embedding places one web page inside another, such as a chat window on your site. Learn when to use an iframe or an install script, and the trade-offs.

Iframe embedding is placing one web page inside another using an HTML inline frame, so content hosted elsewhere, such as a chat window, map, or booking calendar, appears as part of your page. For website chat, an iframe shows the assistant in a fixed area of the page and works on site builders that block custom scripts.

## How iframe embedding works

An iframe is an HTML element with a source address; the browser loads that address in a rectangle on your page. The embedded content runs in its own isolated context, which is safer for both sites but means it can’t easily react to the rest of your page or float over it like a chat bubble.

Chat vendors usually offer three install options. A script adds a floating bubble that follows visitors across pages. An inline embed places the chat inside a specific section and fills its container. An iframe is the fallback for builders that only allow embed blocks, with a fixed width and height you set.

## Example: a tutoring center on a site builder

A tutoring center runs its website on a builder whose free plan doesn’t allow custom scripts but does accept embed blocks. It places its assistant in an iframe on the “Book a session” page, where parents ask about subjects and schedules and book an assessment without leaving the page. This scenario is illustrative.

## Embedding InsertChat

InsertChat offers four ways to put the assistant on a site: a chat bubble that floats in a bottom corner, embedded chat that appears inside a page and fills its container, an iframe fallback for sites that can’t run the install script, and a direct link to a standalone chat page with no install. Platform guides cover WordPress, Wix, Google Tag Manager, and Google Sites.

Whichever you choose, conversations land in the same shared inbox. Find install options on the [developers page](https://insertchat.com/developers) and in [website chat](https://insertchat.com/product/website).

## Is an iframe bad for SEO?

Content inside an iframe is generally attributed to its source page, not yours, so it won’t add to your page’s content. For a chat widget that doesn’t matter.

## Should I use a script or an iframe for website chat?

Use the install script when your site allows it, because it supports the floating bubble and page-wide behavior. Use an iframe only when scripts are blocked.
